Why Your Heel Hurts When You Wake Up (And What To Do About It)
If you’re stepping out of bed in the morning and feeling a sharp pain in your heel you’re not alone.
This is one of the most common problems we see in clinic.
The most likely cause is a condition called Plantar fasciitis.
Overnight, your foot rests in a shortened position.
As you take your first steps, the tissue under your foot suddenly stretches and that’s what causes the pain.
Common signs:
• Sharp pain first thing in the morning
• Pain after sitting or resting
• Eases slightly as you walk, then returns later
What you should NOT do:
• Walk barefoot on hard floors
• Ignore it and hope it goes away
• Stretch aggressively without guidance
What actually helps:
• Supportive footwear (even indoors)
• Gentle, consistent stretching
• Proper assessment from your Podiatrist
If this is happening to you, the earlier you deal with it, the easier it is to fix.
If you’re struggling with heel pain, book in and let’s take a proper look.
